Junior Law Clerk - Corporate Services
Our highly regarded client is seeking a Junior Law Clerk – Corporate Services to join their Calgary office. In this role, you will assist with the preparation and filing of corporate documents and ensure corporate records are maintained accurately and in compliance with firm and regulatory requirements. This position is well-suited to someone who values attention to detail, enjoys managing multiple priorities, and thrives in both independent and team-focused work environments
Key Responsibilities:
- Preparing and filing annual return packages, basic resolutions, and other documentation for routine corporate maintenance (e.g., change of directors/officers, trade name registrations/cancellations).
- Drafting and filing notices and other required government forms under CORES (Level 1).
- Monitoring and following up on pending strike-offs due to non-filing of annual returns.
- Following up with clients to obtain outstanding documentation.
- Forwarding incoming corporate mail to clients in a timely and organized manner.
- Providing corporate information to the litigation department upon request.
- Assisting senior law clerks with administrative and clerical tasks as needed.
- Updating minute books and ensure data integrity and consistency.
- Monitoring the department’s general email inbox and direct emails appropriately.
Problem Solving/Judgment:
- Identifying routine issues in corporate filings and proactively resolves them with minimal supervision.
- Exercising sound judgment in determining when to escalate more complex matters to senior team members or lawyers.
- Applying knowledge of corporate procedures and filing requirements to troubleshoot errors or delays in government submissions.
- Prioritizing tasks effectively in a deadline-driven environment, balancing competing demands.
- Maintaining discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive client and corporate information.
- Demonstrating initiative in identifying process improvements or gaps in documentation.
- Using analytical thinking to verify accuracy of information and ensure consistency across corporate records.
- Responding to client or internal requests thoughtfully and efficiently, considering legal, procedural, and administrative requirements.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Post-secondary education in a legal assistant or law clerk program required; a degree or diploma in a related field is considered an asset.
- CORES Level 1 accreditation or Alberta Corporate Registry accreditation is an asset.
- Previous experience in a law firm or legal environment is an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, etc.)
- Strong organization and time management skills; able to prioritize effectively.
- High attention to detail with a proactive and efficient approach to work.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic team setting.
- Professional communication skills and a client-service mindset.
