They are seeking an experienced In-House Law Clerk to support governance, compliance, labour relations, and legal operations across their growing portfolio. Working closely with the Head of Legal, HR, and Operations teams, you will ensure strong organizational standards, seamless documentation, and reliable legal support.
Key Responsibilities
Corporate Governance & Entity Management
- Maintain and update corporate records and minute books for entities in BC and Alberta.
- Draft resolutions, consents, and entity documentation.
- Support incorporations, extra-provincial registrations, restructurings, and ongoing entity maintenance.
- Assist with board and committee meeting preparation, including agendas, materials, minutes, and director packages.
Contracts & Commercial Support
- Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a variety of agreements.
- Track renewals, terminations, service levels, insurance requirements, and other key contract milestones.
- Maintain contract templates, playbooks, and document libraries.
- Organize repositories and document management systems; track metrics such as cycle times, open matters, and renewals.
Labour Relations & HR Support
- Attend collective bargaining sessions and labour-management meetings; take detailed notes and prepare summaries.
- Track grievances, arbitration outcomes, and amendments.
- Support HR and the Head of Legal with labour-related process improvements and documentation.
- Monitor employment-related compliance obligations across BC and Alberta.
Compliance, Policy & Regulatory Support
- Assist with developing policies, procedures, and training materials.
- Research and track legislative or regulatory developments relevant to seniors housing, healthcare, and operational risk.
- Support compliance programs across multiple jurisdictions.
Transactions & Due Diligence
- Support legal due diligence for acquisitions, development projects, and joint ventures.
- Prepare closing documents, certificates, and closing books.
- Assist in maintaining standardized templates, checklists, and workflow tools.
Qualifications & Experience
- 3 - 7 years of experience as a Law Clerk or Corporate Paralegal (in-house or business law firm experience preferred).
- Diploma/Certificate in Law Clerk or Paralegal Studies, or equivalent experience.
- Strong proficiency in corporate governance and entity law (BCBCA, ABCA, CBCA).
- Experience supporting labour relations (collective bargaining, grievance tracking, arbitration).
- Excellent drafting, organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365, DocuSign, and legal/document management systems.
- Knowledge of employment standards, human rights, or health & safety legislation in BC/AB is an asset.
- Experience in seniors housing, healthcare, or regulated care environments is an asset.
- Notary Public (BC) or Commissioner for Oaths (AB) considered an asset.
